If temps are below 55 degrees and above 85 degrees, a “HOLD FOR PICK UP” at your local post office will automatically be issued.  If insects sit in the mailbox for too long, they can overheat or freeze and die. “HOLD FOR PICK UP” simply means your package will be delivered to your local post office where you will be responsible for picking up. A tracking number will be emailed to you once they ship.

Due to delayed shipping with our postal service as well as the well being and safety of our worms, we only ship to the following states: Oregon and Washington State

Mealworms

Mealworms are the larvae of the darkling beetle and are a high protein food source for many animals such as birds, chickens, reptiles, rodents, fish and human consumption. They can grow to be 1 inch long before transforming into a pupa, which will later transform into a beetle. Shelf life is about 3-4 months from egg to mealworm.

  • Mealworms can be refrigerated up to 4 weeks in about 1 inch of bedding. No feeding required.
  • For longer storage, mealworms can be refrigerated for up to 6 months if you take them out weekly and allow them to sit at room temperature for a day. Feed a slice of carrot or potato and discard before putting them back in the fridge.
  • If you are growing your mealworms, store at room temperature, add an inch of bedding in the bottom of a Tupperware bin. Feed a slice of carrot or potato every few days and replace every few days to prevent mold.

Superworms

Superworms, also known as the King Worm, can grow 2 inches long and are the larvae of the darkling beetle. They are an excellent protein source for many animals such as birds, reptiles, and fish. Because superworms are so lively, they are a popular choice to use as fishing bait. Full grown superworms can bite and are generally used for large reptile feed. They will not pupate automatically like a mealworm and need to be isolated to transform into a pupa and later into a beetle. This gives them a longer shelf life of 6 months or more and makes them easy to maintain.

  • Store at room temperature, no less than 75 degrees. Add an inch of bedding at the bottom of a Tupperware bin and feed a slice of carrot or potato. Make sure to replace carrot or potato every few days to prevent mold. Do not store in the refrigerator as they do not like the cold and will die.

Frass

Frass is a natural plant fertilizer made from mealworm waste. It contains all the natural elements to make your soil rich and productive without any chemical ingredients. It is a natural bloom stimulant and known to have beneficial bacteria and fungi content. Along with nutrients, frass also contains chitin. This is an important component for keeping plant cell walls strong. These stronger cell walls help plants fend off pests and disease. Frass is not harmful for water run-off into lakes or streams and is chemical free and contains no additives. Frass is an excellent additive to any garden bed, agriculture crop, lawn, orchard, or indoor/outdoor plant.

  • Top Soil Indoor and Outdoor Plants: Sprinkle 1-2 tsp frass evenly on top of plant soil, comb in, then water. Repeat every few weeks.
  • Potting Plants: Mix 1 cup frass per gallon of potting soil.
  • Garden Beds: Mix 1 pound frass (4 cups) to every 20 square feet of dirt. Water in after applying. Every few weeks sprinkle frass and comb in well before watering.
  • Water Mix: Mix 1/2 cup frass per one gallon of water. Let sit for 20 minutes then strain with cheese cloth. Use all of it right away. For best results, let sit for 8 to 12 hours.
